Elizabeth was born in 1756 in Egerton, Kent.  Elizabeth's father was John DENCE and her mother was Ann PETIT.  Her paternal grandparents were John DENCE and Elisabeth LEWIS; her maternal grandparents were John PETIT and Sarah RANSLEY. She had three brothers named Lewis, John and Robert.  She was the second youngest of the four children.
