George was born in 1851 in Handborough, Oxfordshire.  George's father was George BURDEN and his mother was Hannah WHITE.  His maternal grandparents were Joseph WHITE and Alice GARDNER. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Henry, Walter, Arthur, Frank, Elizabeth, Emily, Hannah Maria, Agnes, Phillis and Rose Ellen.  He was the oldest of the eleven children.
