  • Susan Seaman, last child of Atwood and Dorothy Edwards, was a "surprise child". Susan's mother was 44, her father, 43, her oldest sibling, Woody, 23 and already married, her next oldest sibling, Helen was 18 and in college, and finally the sibling closest to her, MaryAnn, was 12; when Susan was born. Thus, Susan never had a relationship with her siblings or even her parents, growing up. Susan states that she knows and always knew that her parents loved her very much, but she also knew that her parents were "done" with parenting by the time she came along, and as a result, had a particularly lonely childhood. Many extended family events and visits that her older siblings enjoyed, Susan missed out on, so she did not even really know her uncles, aunts and cousins either. Susan thus, always grew up desperately wanting her own children to be close in age and in relationship. Details regarding Susan's siblings and their relationships with each other and their parents are not known. Susan also reports feelings of sadness and sometimes bitterness regarding her lack of relationship with her siblings, but does not hold any of them in ill-regard.
    
    She is married to Nelson Seaman, has retired a few years ago from her professional career as a speech pathologist, and enjoys keeping busy with friends, grandchildern, personal projects, and substitute teaching. Susan is very social and active and could be described as the one who keeps her family together. She is easy to communicate with, has strong traditional family values, and is a committed Born Again Christian. She also spends time serving as a sunday school teacher for the children at her church.
