  • Susan states that her father was a big, loud, and gregarious man who was a prolific story-teller. Atwood Edwards was a simple man, having only an eighth-grade education. He was the oldest of 9 children and worked his entire life to help support his family; first his family of origin, then his own family. Atwood worked through the Depression, and supported several family members during that difficult time. He was very proud of his ability to keep his responsibilities, even to the point of continuing to work in a job he hated so he could provide for his family. He was a blue-coller worker, very intelligent and pushed his children to achieve higher education and better themselves. He also was stubborn, liked things the way he liked them, and was the leader of his household.
