Sarah was born in 1818 in Morton, Bingley, Yorkshire, England.1   Sarah's father was Thomas Thornton and her mother was Harriet Asquith.  She had four brothers and four sisters, named Samuel, William, Thomas, John, Elizabeth, Nancy, Hannah and Ann.  She was the oldest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 66 in June 1884 in Keighley, Yorkshire, England.1
