George Petty

George was born in 1825 in Hensall, Yorkshire, England.¹ George's father was John Petty and his mother was Elizabeth Hirst. His paternal grandparents were Samuel Pettyt and Anne (Nancy) Benson. He had four brothers and four sisters, named John William, Henry, William, James, Elizabeth Phoebe, Elizabeth, Mary Ann and Eleanor. He was the fourth oldest of the nine children.
