John Petty

John was born in 1796 in Beeston, Leeds, Yorkshire, England.¹ John's father was Samuel Pettyt and his mother was Anne (Nancy) Benson. His paternal grandmother was Dinah Pettyt. He had three brothers and three sisters, named William, John, Samuel, Dinah, Mary Anne and Eliza. He was the fifth oldest of the seven children.
