Mary was born on April 18th, 1773 in Catchaburn and her baptism took place on May 9th, 1773 in Muirkirk.  Mary's father was Thomas Lees and her mother was Elizabeth Pedine. She had four brothers and two sisters, named David, John, Andrew, William, Elizabeth and Janet.  She was the fifth oldest of the seven children.
