Janet was born on January 15th, 1780 in Catchaburn and her baptism took place on January 23rd, 1780 in Muirkirk.  Janet's father was Thomas Lees and her mother was Elizabeth Pedine. She had four brothers and two sisters, named David, John, Andrew, William, Elizabeth and Mary.  She was the youngest of the seven children.
