David was born about 1763 and his baptism took place on December 11th, 1763 in Muirkirk.  David's father was Thomas Lees and his mother was Elizabeth Pedine. He had three brothers and three sisters, named John, Andrew, William, Elizabeth, Mary and Janet.  He was the oldest of the seven children.
