Margaret was born on June 28th, 1786 in Ayr and her baptism took place there on July 2nd, 1786.  Margaret's father was Andrew Lees and her mother was Mary Eaglesom/Eaglesholm/Eaglesome/Eagleshum/Eaglesham.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Lees and Elizabeth Pedine; her maternal grandparents were James Eaglesom/Eaglesholm/Eaglesome/Eagleshum/Eaglesham and Margaret Somerveil/Sommerveil. She had three brothers and a sister, named David, John, James and Jean.  She was the oldest of the five children.
