Jean was born on October 24th, 1789 in Ayr and her baptism took place there on October 25th, 1789.  Jean's father was Andrew Lees and her mother was Mary Eaglesom/Eaglesholm/Eaglesome/Eagleshum/Eaglesham.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Lees and Elizabeth Pedine; her maternal grandparents were James Eaglesom/Eaglesholm/Eaglesome/Eagleshum/Eaglesham and Margaret Somerveil/Sommerveil. She had three brothers and a sister, named David, John, James and Margaret.  She was the third oldest of the five children.
