David was born on December 21st, 1787 in Ayr and his baptism took place there on December 23rd, 1787.  David's father was Andrew Lees and his mother was Mary Eaglesom/Eaglesholm/Eaglesome/Eagleshum/Eaglesham.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Lees and Elizabeth Pedine; his maternal grandparents were James Eaglesom/Eaglesholm/Eaglesome/Eagleshum/Eaglesham and Margaret Somerveil/Sommerveil. He had two brothers and two sisters, named John, James, Margaret and Jean.  He was the second oldest of the five children.
