Benoni Webster

Benoni was born on April 3rd, 1762. Benoni's father was Jonathan Webster and his mother was Dorothy Hills. His paternal grandparents were Jonathan Webster and Mary Strong; his maternal grandparents were Phillip Hills and Hannah Cutter. He had six brothers named Jonathan, James, David, Israel, William and Zenas. He was the youngest of the seven children. He had five half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Ruel, Gershom, Laban, Molly, Aaron, Dolly and Ruth. He died at the age of 60 on January 8th, 1823.

General Notes
- Benoni and Sally settled in East Roxbury, Washington County, Vermont, in the spring of 1797, in the northeast part of the town on lot No. 3, of the first range, (which he had bought in 1796) then an unbroken wilderness. His first house was logs, roofed with bark, and floored with split basswood, smoothed with an axe. In 1810 he build a large framed house, making the rooms about two feet higher than it was usual to make them at that time, so that "Uncle Sam Metcalf of Royalton, could stand up in them with his hat on." The doors were also made unusually high, so that his wife's tall relations could come in without stooping, as he said. He was the first to plant fruit trees in town.
