James was born about 1839 in Corbridge, N/land.  James' father was James GILHESPY and his mother was Mary BROWN. He had four brothers and six sisters, named Jacob, Joseph, Joseph, George Brown, Dorothy (Jane?), Mary Ann/Margaret, Ruth, Mary, Mary Ann and Sarah.  He died in 1870.1
