Roelof was born on April 12th, 1792 in Murmerwoude.  Roelof's father was Lieuwe Roelofs Rosema and his mother was Hiltje Sipkes. He had a brother and a sister, named Sipke and Tetje.  He was the oldest of the three children. He had three half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Hedzer, Hedzer, Melle, Froukje, Janke, Wytske and Gertje.  He died at the age of 65 on March 20th, 1858.
