Janke was born on February 18th, 1812 in Driesum.  Janke's father was Lieuwe Roelofs Rosema and her mother was Sytske Hedzers Kooistra. She had three brothers and three sisters, named Hedzer, Hedzer, Melle, Froukje, Wytske and Gertje.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children. She had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Roelof, Sipke and Tetje.  She died at the age of 37 on January 17th, 1850 in Dokkum.
