Benjamin was born in 1798 in Armley, Yorkshire, England.  Benjamin's father was William REDSHAW and his mother was Sarah DAVISON.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas REDSHAW and Martha BOOTH.  He had seven brothers and three sisters, named George, Thomas, William, Joseph, James, Samuel, Samuel, Mary, Sarah and Sarah.  He was the second oldest of the eleven children.
