Richard was born in 1895 in Sale, Cheshire, England.  Richard's father was James MARSLAND and his mother was Mary Alice Rogerson GRATRIX.  His paternal grandparents were Richard MARSLAND and Ann RENSHAW.  He had a brother and seven sisters, named james, Edith, Polly, Alice, Esther, Dorothy, Ethel and Annie.  He was the sixth oldest of the nine children.
