Martin was born on October 9th, 1717.  Martin's father was Judocus BAECKELANDT and his mother was Livina DE LOOF.  His paternal grandparents were Mathias BAECKELANDT and Elisabeth GOVAERTS.  He had four brothers and seven sisters, named Pieter, Guillielmus, Jean, Joseph, Maria-Anna, Elisabeth, Egidia, Joanna, Joanna, Joanna-Maria and Brigitte-Ludovica.  He was the eighth oldest of the twelve children.  He died at just 18 days old on October 27th, 1717.
