Shem's baptism took place on March 29th, 1779 in North Bradley.1  Shem's father was James Read and his mother was Sarah Silverthorne. He had three brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, James, Ham, Sarah, Jane, Sarah and Jane. He had three half-brothers and two half-sisters, named James, John, Nathaniel, Ann and Cathrine.
