Joseph was born on July 28th, 1803 in North Bradley.1   Joseph's father was Thomas Dainton and his mother was Mary Dix.  His paternal grandparents were Charles Dainton and Leah Loader; his maternal grandparents were Peter Dix and Mary Maggot. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Chales, Lewis, John, Sarah and Mary.  He was the third oldest of the six children.
