George was born on July 2nd, 1812 and his baptism took place on July 12th, 1812 in Petworth, Sussex.1  George's father was George Whitcomb and his mother was Charlotte Warden.  His maternal grandparents were Wm Warden and Mary Spooner. He had three brothers and three sisters, named James, William, Charles, Mary, Charlotte and Ann.
