John was born on May 17th, 1749.  John's father was Vincent Dye and his mother was Sarah Artepe.  His paternal grandparents were John Laurens Dey and Ann Brown. He had ten brothers and four sisters, named Daniel, Vincent, Enoch, Brown, David, Rachael, Reuben/Ruben, Dussoway, Joseph, William, Uenice, Sara, Nancy and Catherine "Caty".  He was the second oldest of the fifteen children.  He died at the age of 48 in April 1798.

‌John and Mary were married.  They had three sons and two daughters, named Daniel, James, John, Sarah and Lydia.
