Mathilde was born about 0975 in Saxony, Germany.1   Mathilde's father was Emperor Otto (The Red) of Saxony II and her mother was Theophanu Sklerina.  Her paternal grandparents were Emperor Otto (The Great) of Saxony I and Adelheid of Italy; her maternal grandparents were Emperor Romanus of Byzantium II and Empress Theophano of Byzantium. She had a brother named Otto.  She was the older of the two children. She had a half-sister named Ulfhilde.  She died on November 4th, 1025.2

Mathilde and Edzq were married about 1000 in Sachsen, Germany.1   They had a son and a daughter, named Otto and Richenza.
