George Washington was born on December 30th, 1844 in Van Buren Co, TN.  George Washington's father was Joseph N. Simmons and his mother was Mary Elizabeth 'Betty' Lewis.  His paternal grandparents were James Simmons and Stacy Ann Roberts. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Benjamin Lewis, Joseph Henry Knox, James D., Andrew Jackson 'Jack', Mamie Elizabeth, Katherine and Maryann.  He was the second youngest of the eight children. He had a half-sister named Francis M..  He died at the age of 47 on November 25th, 1892 in Van Buren Co, TN.  He was buried in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Cummingsville, Van Buren Co, TN.
