Benjamin Lewis was born on October 5th, 1820 in TN.  Benjamin Lewis' father was Joseph N. Simmons and his mother was Mary Elizabeth 'Betty' Lewis.  His paternal grandparents were James Simmons and Stacy Ann Roberts. He had four brothers and three sisters, named Joseph Henry Knox, James D., George Washington, Andrew Jackson 'Jack', Mamie Elizabeth, Katherine and Maryann.  He was the oldest of the eight children. He had a half-sister named Francis M..  He died at the age of 81 on September 18th, 1902 in Van Buren Co, TN.  He was buried in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Cummingsville, Van Buren Co, TN.
