Mary E. Pricola was born in 1860 in TN.1   Mary E. Pricola's father was Samuel Harrison Cary and her mother was Polly.  Her paternal grandparents were Thomas Cary and Elizabeth Roberts. She had six brothers and six sisters, named Abner Henry Harrison, James Monroe, Benjamin Franklin, Samuel Lafayette, John Millard Filmore, William Alfred, Elizabeth J., Sarah M., Charlotte Emarintha, Martha Jane, Larcena and Moriah Marian.  She was the third youngest of the thirteen children.
