William Alfred was born on January 16th, 1863 in Henderson Co, TN.1   William Alfred's father was Samuel Harrison Cary and his mother was Polly.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Cary and Elizabeth Roberts. He had five brothers and seven sisters, named Abner Henry Harrison, James Monroe, Benjamin Franklin, Samuel Lafayette, John Millard Filmore, Elizabeth J., Sarah M., Charlotte Emarintha, Martha Jane, Larcena, Mary E. Pricola and Moriah Marian.  He was the second youngest of the thirteen children.  He died at the age of 81 on April 18th, 1944 in Decatur Co, TN.  He was buried in Prospect Cemetery, Decatur Co, TN.1
