Ollie May was born on February 5th, 1888. Ollie May's father was John Shaver and his mother was Mahala Harper. His paternal grandparents were Paul Shaver and Mary Runyon. He had nine brothers and seven sisters, named George Worthy, William Henry, Andrew Phillip, Leweran, Stillborn Infant, Jesse Milton, Romeo Freer, Stillborn Infant, Noah, Mary Catherine, Ada Emeline, Martha Jane, Rachel Ann, Luvernia Elizabeth, Armenta and Flora Belle.
