Martha Jane was born on September 11th, 1872. Martha Jane's father was John Shaver and her mother was Mahala Harper. Her paternal grandparents were Paul Shaver and Mary Runyon. She had ten brothers and six sisters, named George Worthy, William Henry, Andrew Phillip, Leweran, Stillborn Infant, Jesse Milton, Ollie May, Romeo Freer, Stillborn Infant, Noah, Mary Catherine, Ada Emeline, Rachel Ann, Luvernia Elizabeth, Armenta and Flora Belle.
