Richard was born after 1433. Richard's father was John Plantagenet of Lancaster and his mother was Jacquetta de St. Pol of Luxemburg. His paternal grandparents were Henry IV Bolingbroke Plantagenet of England and Mary de Bohun; his maternal grandparents were Pierre I of Luxemburg and Marguerite de Baux del Balso. He had a sister named Mary. He was the younger of the two children. He had nine half-brothers and eight half-sisters, named Anthony, John, Lionel, Edward, John, Lewis, Martha, Thomas, Richard, Child, Elizabeth, Margaret, Anne, Jacquetta, Eleanor, Catherine and Mary. He died in infancy.-
