Her maternal grandfather was William Henderson Underwood and her maternal grandmother is Virginia O'Ferrall. She had three brothers and four sisters, named William Henderson, Walter Scott, John Henry Milner, Leona Nancy, Ella Virginia, Augusta Georgia and Ada Eugenia.
