From the research of Robert H. Maybrier:
Served as both County Clerk and Circuit Clerk from the organization of Crawford County in 1816 until his death in 1835. He is buried in an unmarked grave in Palestine, IL. Following his death, his wife was made guardian of the children. She was helped considerably by her brother who lived just across the river in Sullivan County, IN. Later she and the children moved to LaPorte, IN to live with another brother. She sent her oldest son, William Chauncey Piper, to Lexington, KY to live with his great uncle, Joseph Ficklin, who was Postmaster there 1822-1850.
