Janie was born on November 15th, 1855 in , Grayson, Kentucky, USA.1 Janie's father was Anderson Skaggs and her mother was Mary Fulkerson. Her paternal grandparents were Isham Skaggs and Rachel Downs; her maternal grandparents were James Fulkerson and Elizabeth or Mary. She had a brother and four sisters, named Francis Washington, Nancy E., Molly, Hennie and Bertha B.. She was the oldest of the six children. She died at the age of 80 on April 4th, 1936 in Millerstown, Grayson, Kentucky, U.S.A.. She was buried on April 6th, 1936 in Millerstown, Grayson, Kentucky, U.S.A..1 1 General Notes

"... but Charles Samuel first married Alice MORRISON. Both Alice and her baby died during childbirth and are buried during at Mt. Moriah. Sam, a storyteller and humorist, later married Lucretia Jane SKAGGS, daughter of Anderson and Mary SKAGGS, and they had 10 children:
Mary M. (1877 - 1879); Lela (died 1967) married Ernest HEAD; Hasque married Floyd McLAUGHLIN (lived in Iowa); Roxine (Roxie) married Everett HIGGS (lived in Michigan); A.C.
