The DOWNS family was closely connected with the SKAGGS family in the Rock Creek Area.
Rachel DOWNS married Isham SKAGGS of Grayson County. They are both buried on a farm owned by Russell HACKLEY, near the Rock Creek Church.
In 1850, Isham SKAGGS lived next door to the old "Long Hunter" Henry SKAGGS. Two members of the Rock Creek Church. Rev. Martin UTTERBACK and Charles WORTHAM were listed as "neighbors" to Henry SKAGGS in an 1833 Revolutionary War pension application, which Rev. Martin UTTERBACK and Thomas DORAN signed, stating that they were "well acquanted with Henry SKAGGS" and agree that "he's reputed and believed in the neighborhood where he resides to be a soldier of the Revolutionary...."
