His paternal grandfather was James Skaggs and his paternal grandmother is Mary Thompson. He had four brothers and two sisters, named James Lindsey, William, Aaron, Henry, Nancy and Rebecca. He died after August 6th, 1870 in Grayson Springs, Grayson Co., Kentucky, USA.2 General Notes

"Between 1804 and 1809, there was a exodus from the Green County area to this region by the MEREDITH, SKAGGS, and SANDERS families.... About 1809, Martin SKAGGS moved to Grayson County, and about five years later Nathaniel KERR left Green County and located in Grayson County. These three men, SAUNDERS, SKAGGS, and KERR formed the nucleus of a church called Barton's Run Separate Baptist Church in Grayson County...." (Source: Joseph MEREDITH, Sr., bought his Rock Creek farm on 15 Jan 1809 (deed at Elizabethtown). Many of the SKAGGS' came to Grayson County in 1809. Henry SKAGGS lived in Green County until the year 1809, when he moved to Grayson Co. (See Grayson Co. Rev. War Pension Papers. Henry SKAGGS #30701.)
