Catharine was born on March 1st, 1746 in Demarest, Bergen, NJ and her baptism took place on January 9th, 1743 in Hackensack, Bergen, NJ.  Catharine's father was Lucas Van Voorhees and her mother was Annatie Kip.  Her paternal grandparents were Albert Van Voorhees and Magdaleena (Helena) Van Der Schure; her maternal grandparents were Nicasius KIP and Annetje (Antie) Breyandt. She had six brothers and four sisters, named Albert, Henrik Voor Heyzen, Catrientje, Nikausie (Nicholas), Isaak, Jacob, Antje, Lena, Elizabeth and Marregrietjen.  She was the second youngest of the eleven children.  She died at the age of 67 on June 9th, 1813 in , Bergen, New Jersey.

‌Catharine and James were married in a religious ceremony on August 28th, 1767 in Schraalenburgh, Bergen, New Jersey.  They had seven sons and two daughters, named Henry, Luke, George, Albert, Jacob Voorhees, Issack, James, Annetie Or Hannah and Eleanor.
