Anne was born about 1526 in Upham, Wiltshire, England. Anne's father was John (Henry) Giffard and her mother was Joan (Johan) Brydges. Her paternal grandparents were William Giffard and Eleanor Paulett; her maternal grandparents were Henry Brydges and Miss (Anne) Hungerford. She had three brothers and three sisters, named John, Richard, George, Alice, Mary and Joane. She was the third oldest of the seven children.-
