William IV was born about 1176 in Bramber, Sussex, England.  William IV's father was William III De Braose and his mother was Maud Matilda De Saint Valery.  His paternal grandparents were William II De Braose and Bertha de Gloucester; his maternal grandparents were Bernald IV De Saint Valery and Matilda. He had twelve brothers and seven sisters, named Robert, Roger, Giles, Thomas, Walter, Reginald, Hugh, Henry, John, Bernard, Fulk, Philip, Flandrina, Matilda, Joan Alice, Margaret, Leucia, Isabel and Eleanor.  He was the eighth oldest of the twenty children.  He died in 1210 in France, Starved to death by King John.
