William II De Braose 
William II was born about 1126 in Briouze, Normandy, France. William II's father was Philip De Braose and his mother was Eleanor De Totenais. His paternal grandparents were William I De Braose and Agnes De Clare; his maternal grandparents were Judael De Totenais and Pecquign. He had three brothers and a sister, named John, Philip, Gildon and Maud. He was the youngest of the five children. He died about 1192 in Bramber, Sussex, England.General Notes

William was very fortunate in his marriage to Berta. All of her brothers died young without heirs so she brought a number of important lordships to the de Braoses in 1166. These included Brecon and Abergavenny. William became Sheriff of Herefordshire in 1174. His interest in Sussex was maintained as he confirmed the grants of his father and grandfather for the maintenance of Sele Priory and extended St. Mary's, Shoreham.
