Isabel was born about 1184. Isabel's father was William III De Braose and her mother was Maud Matilda De Saint Valery. Her paternal grandparents were William II De Braose and Bertha de Gloucester; her maternal grandparents were Bernald IV De Saint Valery and Matilda. She had thirteen brothers and six sisters, named Robert, Roger, Giles, Thomas, William IV, Walter, Reginald, Hugh, Henry, John, Bernard, Fulk, Philip, Flandrina, Matilda, Joan Alice, Margaret, Leucia and Eleanor.
