Robert was born in 1090 in Caen, Calvados, Fra.  Robert's father was King Henry I England and his mother was Sybilla Corbet.  His paternal grandparents were King William The Conqueror and Matilda of Flanders; his maternal grandfather was Sir Robert Corbet. He had five half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Robert Caen of Gloucester, Robert, "The Consul", Reginald Dunstanville, Herbert fitz Herbert of Winchester, Matilda or Maud and Elizabeth.  He died at the age of 57 on October 31st, 1147 in Bristol, Gloucester, England.  He was buried in St. James Priory, Bristol, England.1

‌Robert and Maud were married in a religious ceremony about 1115.  They had a daughter named Maud Fitz Robert.
