John was born on June 24th, 1340 in Abbaye de St Bav, Ghent, Flandre-Oriental, Belgium.  John's father was Edward III of England and his mother was Philippa of Hainault.  His paternal grandparents were Edward II of England and Isabella of France. He had five brothers named Edward, Edward, Lionel, Edmund and Thomas.  He died in Leicester Castle, Leicester, Leicestershire, England.  He was buried in St Paul's Cathed, London, Middlesex, England.
