Robert was born in 1836 in AL.1 Robert's father was William Parson Evans and his mother was Elizabeth Ann McEwen. His paternal grandparents were John Evans and Elizabeth McCurry; his maternal grandparents were Robert Bort McEwen and Rachel Hawkins. He had thirteen brothers and two sisters, named Alexander Thomas, John Murroe, James Kirkham, William Henry, Greenbury Garrett, John, Hiram Martin, Isaac, Asbury, Wesley, Mathew Jones, Matthew Jones, Joseph M., Margaret and Elizabeth.
