Hobert "Hobie" was born in June 1907. Hobert "Hobie"'s father was George Washington Deckard and his mother was Martha Mize. His paternal grandparents were John Wesley Deckard and Malissa Eads. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Clarence Jackie, Lawrence Brigham, Floyd Washington Jake, Leonard Buck, General Sanford, Ollie, Sarah, Rosetta and Eva Jane.
