Charles was born in 1863 in Virginia. Charles' father was David Kite and his mother was Mary Judy. His paternal grandparents were Martin Kite and Catharine Kiser; his maternal grandparents were Frederick Judy and Elizabeth Norman. He had a sister named Mary. He was the younger of the two children. He had six half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Alfred Melton, Francis David, John W., Alexander, Thomas Oscar, Harvey, Eliza Jane, Virginia Ann, Nancy and Sarah.-
