William was born on September 26th, 1799 in Barrington, Nova Scotia.  William's father was John Spinney and his mother was Susan Snow.  His maternal grandparents are Nathan Snow and Mary Polly. He had two brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, John, Sarah, Mary, Susan, Elizabeth and Deborah.  He was the youngest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 87 on November 20th, 1886 in Port Latour, Nova Scotia.
