Nicholas was born in August 1737 in St Stephen in Brannel, Cornwall and his baptism took place there on August 8th, 1737.  Nicholas' father was Ralph Vivian and his mother was Sarah Vercoe.  His paternal grandparents were William Vivian and <Unknown>. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Ralph, Joseph, Joseph, Joan and Ann.  He was the second oldest of the six children. He had two half-sisters named Jane and Frances.
