Joseph was born in January 1747 in St Stephen in Brannel, Cornwall and his baptism took place there on January 24th, 1747.  Joseph's father was Ralph Vivian and his mother was Sarah Vercoe.  His paternal grandparents were William Vivian and <Unknown>. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Nicholas, Ralph, Joseph, Joan and Ann.  He was the fourth oldest of the six children. He had two half-sisters named Jane and Frances.  He died at the age of 3 in 1750.
